good enough for me to buy the next of the series
Not terribly original story line and concept - but well done and with enough detail added in to keep one interested throughout the book - and to convince me to get the next one in the series.
One glaring issue however:
Several scenes are based on bad physics - surprisingly mostly about very basic relations between acceleration, inertia, distances and speed (e.g. a ship that can accelerate to half light within minutes will not be able to use even a tenth of its acceleration if the inertial compensators are offline - the crew would get smeared)
This does not happen all the time - it's only some scenes - but if you are a stickler for such details you'll likely not enjoy this book.
If you're able to overlook such things then the story is quite enjoyable.

Passable but not exceptional
Seems to be written for soldier types. Much patriotism. Not Much sci-fi. Structure is a little jarring at times. Jumps from protagonist to secondary characters without warning, and for too short too actually develop a character and care for them. Also the book is quite short and feels unfinished. I wouldn't call it book 1 but rather episode one. Some sci fi themes seems to have been chosen more for conviniances sake, and because they sound cool, rather than Logik or good storytelling. Some story acrcs feel forced and unnatural, even stereotypical. I won't download/buy the rest of the series.
