gripping and terrifying

Gripping, scary
This book gripped me, and I listened to it in one go -- more or less. If you're a fan of the TV series 'criminal minds' you'll probably enjoy it, although it isn't as gory as the TV series. There's a lot of suspense, though, the atmosphere is oppressive and scary, and the whole situation seems so very hopeless.
I've seen other readers compare it to Gone Girl and Girl on the Train. I can't do that, because I have read neither. I don't think all these comparisons to other books are fair anyway, except for giving a potential reader a hint of the direction the book takes.
This book is fast paced, scary, and I couldn't switch it off. Georgia Maguire as the narrator was an excellent choice, she created the exact atmosphere which compelled me to listen to this book within just one day.

Good but not gripping
Narration very good. Story subject interesting but takes its time to make you want to keep listening. Outcome predictable.

Wenig Tiefgang, dafür spannend wie Sau
Von Anfang an super spannend. Klar, ein Ding für Frauen. Sehr sympathische selbstlose Heldin lässt sich gefühlsmäßig einwickeln bis zum bösen Erwachen. Man kann sich gut rein versetzen und fiebert mit. Interessant gemacht durch ständigen Wechsel zwischen Gegenwart und Retrospektive. Wenn man nicht unbedingt Tiefgang braucht, dafür aber sich mitreißen lassen will von einer gar nicht so unwahrscheinlichen Story..... Goldrichtig! Ich hab s genossen!

Gripping!
This book was amazing! I couldn't stop listening! The way the story goes back and forth from the present to past, and slowly the timeline creeps in closer and closer was very thrilling.

Kind of an incredible story
This story is certainly thrilling in that you want to go on to know the end. Still, while listening, I had doubts about how probable that story was. I find the heroine's (lacking) reaction rather hard to swallow. OK, all this increases the tension, but I kept asking myself if Grace did have no other way out than the way she took in the end (though it was a highly gratifying way to the revenge-thirsty reader). In a situation where you want to sacrifice yourself to save somebody else, who you cannot save despite your sacrifice, sacrificing yourself does not make sense (if you get my meaning). In this case, taking care of number 1 is your priority.
Apart from this lack in probability level, I cannot really say that it was a nice listen, as the whole story is rather disgusting. But it has a thrilling quality, so you want to go on listening.

Sehr spannend und leicht zu verstehen
