Nelson Mandela is one of the great moral and political leaders of our time: an international hero whose lifelong dedication to the fight against racial oppression in South Africa won him the Nobel Peace Prize and the presidency of his country. Since his triumphant release in 1990 from more than a quarter-century of imprisonment, Mandela has been at the center of the most compelling and inspiring political drama in the world.

"Narrator Michael Boatman has a gentle but insistent voice that suggests a certain grace and is well suited for the memoir of this worldwide symbol of persistence and justice. Boatman’s authentic pronunciation of South African tribes and other words also lends great credibility to his reading. He narrates at an unhurried pace and lingers on certain words throughout the book in order to let us inhale Mandela’s meanings." ( AudioFile)

One of my all-time favorites

You know Nelson Mandela, right? Are you sure?! What if I said this a story about one of the greatest human beings not only of our time, but that has possibly ever lived?! Would you agree, would you be surprised?

People often mention Mandela in the same breath with Martin Luther King Jr. or Ghandi. Without wanting to take anything away from these icons, Mandela belongs in a league of his own. His life's story is literally mind blowing and I don't use this word lightly.

This is a man who defied the odds from the day he was born, who never took the easy way out and who sacrificed his life of 95 years in the truest sense of the word. He is the embodiment of life mastery, of playing the hand you are dealt and persevering in spite of adversity and temptation.

Most people know Mandela as being the former president of South Africa who ended the apartheid regime. Well, this is the culmination of his story. This book starts at the beginning of the adventure that was his life's journey. A must read.
