Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
The Hunger Games] is a violent, jarring, speed-rap of a novel that generates nearly constant suspense... I couldn't stop reading." (Stephen King,
"I was so obsessed with this book that I had to take it with me out to dinner and hide it under the edge of the table so I wouldn't have to stop reading... The Hunger Games is amazing." (Stephanie Meyer)
"Brilliantly plotted and perfectly paced." John Green, ( New York Times Book Review)

Great story, but please get a different narrator
The story is a good one.
Odd, rich, deep, good characters.
Not a moment, but the feeling of dread with regards to the oppressive regime and situation
The narrator is reading in a whiny voice that makes the main character seem weak and much too girlish for what the character actually is.
Quite frankly, if it hadn't been for the story I would have stopped listening.
As it was, I suffered through the other books in order to hear the story, but the reader nearly killed the experience for me.
That is basically a repeat question, because such a moment would stay in my memory.
Make sure to listen to a sample.
If the voice does not grate on you as it did for me, go for it.
Also, being male, I tire of the predictable love interest angle one finds in books by female authors. Here it is made worse by having an unresolved love triangle and the oh so confused main character.
