Terry Pratchett's Goodbye

This is Terry Pratchett's last novel, perhaps not a literary masterpiece, but a deeply moving farewell. Of course the story is funny and entertaining, but more important is the message, he sends us, well knowing that his life will come to end soon. He is not a preacher and his voice is full of humour, but what he tells us goes right to the heart: Make the best of your life, use your talent and skills, be understanding and tolerant of others, give a helping hand, whenever you can and you will find happiness.

Of course Terry Pratchett fans know Stephen Briggs already and he is perfect as in all the other Discworld novels. His voice gives so much color and live to the characters, you would miss something, if you would just read the story.

The Shepherd's crown is about the young witch, Tiffany Aching, we already know from previous novels. Despite her youth, it falls to her to save the world again from an invasion of the elves. Of course she is not alone in this fight, old allies like the Nat Mac Feegles are with her, but there are also some new friends like Geoffrey, a young man, who wants to become a witch and his goat Mephistopheles.

No doubt, there are enough bizarre elements in this story to create mirth and laughter, but overall, you will feel a touch of nostalgia and sadness. It is Terry Pratchett's Goodbye to his readers and friends.
