Enter the world of young Mary Newbury, a world where simply being different can cost a person her life. Hidden until now in the pages of her diary, Mary's startling story begins in 1659, the year her beloved grandmother is hanged in the public square as a witch. Mary narrowly escapes a similar fate, only to face intolerance and new danger among the Puritans in the New World. How long can she hide her true identity? Will she ever find a place where her healing powers will not be feared?

Interesting and credible

I enjoyed this audio book, the reader did a great job in performing this. I am an adult, and I found the story interesting, even though this book is meant for children/young people. The storyline revealed a wealth of historical information on the witch hunt in England, on Puritan life, and on the dangers and adventures the new settlers in the US had to endure, without being boring or being too scholarly. The story is told in diary form, it is easy to follow and entirely credible. I found the protagonist's interaction with the Red Indians extremely interesting - they share a common bond, as they are both healers and understand the benefit of herbs, and nature.
