A decade ago, sculptor Clare Kimball fled it Emmitsboro, Maryland, to take the Manhattan art world by storm. She's been celebrated as the up-and-coming artist of her generation. But for Clare, no amount of exposure to the spotlight can eclipse the painful memories of her father's suicide. Jut as her star is shining brighter than ever, Clare leaves it all behind to go home and lay her demons to rest. Emmitsboro sheriff Cameron Rafferty never forgot Clare, the girl he'd loved from afar while they were both still in high school. And as Clare settles in, they form a bond that grows stronger by the day. But the past Clare has come to lay to rest has risen up with vengeance, rocking the town in the form of a brutal murder. As the investigation gets under way, it's clear the death is linked to something very sinister, something plainly connected with Clare's return. As the sheriff, Cameron is charged with solving the case. As a man, he'll stop at nothing to protect Clare even as she sets out on her own investigation. Together they'll learn that true evil can linger anywhere, even in those you love and trust the most. But it's a discovery that may come too late to save either of them.

Evil indeed - but devine ???

I refer to the abridged version of DEVINE EVIL.
Lots of the story must have been lost when bringing the story from 17 to 5 hours duration. I did not miss anything until the last 30 minutes. That's the time when some acting persons appear and are referred to in a way that you think - whoops, did I skip a track on my IPod???
But beside this: The story is thrilling, described characters are interesting and the end is quite surprising. The audio combines modern life with rural America and makes it's dark sides visible (if you favour stereotypes).
Descriptions of some crimes and deeds are very graphic, therefore this audio should be priviledge to adults.
