Little deduction. Lots of Hollywood script action

I really wanted to like this book. And I am not a hardcore A.C.Doyle fan boy. But if so much referring to the attributes of the family Holmes - shouldn't these be a bit more essential to the solving of the "riddle" (which was none at all)?
I couldn't shake the feeling of listening to a completely straight forward mainstream movie, where action for the sake of action was more important than a clever story.
The speaker did a good job, to my mind at least.
