Hired to find the missing son of retired political activist Moira Doherty, Dan Starkey knows his new case is going to be challenging. Billy 'the Bear' Doherty, a criminal with a nasty drug habit, isn't an easy man to find - his mum is convinced he's been murdered. But when Moira herself is killed, Dan finds himself in the middle of a deadly game of cat and mouse.
"He just seems to get better and better" (Ian Rankin)
"Sometimes brutal, often blackly humorous and always terrific." (Observer)

Bateman gets better and better
It has the power to become one of my favourite audio books.
I follow the story of the adventures of Dan Starkey since the beginning, so meeting him again is just great.
I really enjoyed the reading of Adam Moore. He gives the characters of the book a unique voice. Listening to him speaking in the dialects of Northern Ireland is brilliant.
Colin Bateman manages to grip me the whole time. His narration never seems to slip into mere talking - there is always something to discover. So putting a finger to a specific moment in the book is not easy. Maybe the scene close to the "High Chaparral" as Christine stops the Army convoy and a gun fight breaks loose, that is one especially gripping moment.
