Rather weak and boring

If you expect a classical whodunnit similar to Agatha Christie's crime novels this book is not for you.
The story starts with a kind of social study featuring a weak heroine. She's from a working class background and gets bullied by her uncle. She manages to escape her torturer and works as a nanny in a household with many girls. The eldest girl is pictured as a bright and independent spirit, but still a teenager. I was expecting more mature protagonists and wasn't much interested in the heroine's woes and worries. The characters stayed bland and there was no significant developement imho. The crime story seemed just a background occurrence and I didn't have the patience to listen to the end. Unfortunately this didn't turn out to be a series I would be pursuing.
The reader did a fairly good job at reading a rather boring story.
