Surprisingly good LitRPG

If I had known this was litRPG (literary RPG, fantasy with in-universe RPG mechanics) I would probably not have bought the book, but that would have been a shame. The story is well written and engaging. It can at times makes your eyes roll excessively with all the clichés used and settings copied from other books, but it manages to draw you in anyway.

Be warned though, we are speaking about a book that shamelessly copies from Harry Potter and King Killer Chronicles, and where the main objective of the story is to complete a dungeon to be granted a boon from a God. The dungeon just happens to have a cliché filled magic school outside training would-be adventures in the magic necessary to climb the dungeon. And where adventures can gain levels and light up and float when they do..

the problem with the power of friendship

Let me just say, this is a good fantasy book. I enjoyed the time listening to it apart from having to hear the same spell incantations over and over again (the speaker made this worse with his melodramaticism),
I really enjoyed the humor of the author and overall writing style. The main character was actually witty, smart and it didnt feel forced. (reminded me a bit of the humor in skullduggery pleasant )
I would recommend this book to people that are new to the fantasy genre and like lighthearted storys, but i wouldnt tell fantasy-veterans (or people with developed taste in storys) to read this.

The charackters are only mildly interesting (except for the main charackter and the prisoner) and none of the turning points in the story came as a suprise.

Personally i am just tired of feel good storys where no charqckter actions have actual consequences. Every bad thing that happens to the main charackter and his friends, just gets solved with healing magic. Since this book refrences to videogames (mmorpgs) and you get to know powerlvls of charackters through mana and auras, the reader has the chance to understand, that kids with shitty powerlvl should die in combat situations in no time. this isnt a problem in school trials, since there is some form of supervision but rather, later on in the story.

I dont understand why the "power of friendship" trope is still so overused in fantasy. sure friends are usefull and can help a great deal but giving everybodsy around the main-char plot armor because they are friendly is just dumb.
It should be the other way around if anything, the protagonist is usually involved in dangerous situation, this should also mean being a friend of him/her should put the friends at a risk of dieing.

One of the books that does this right is the Night Angel Trilogy, there the actions of the main charackter actually matter even tho he has some amount of "plot-armor"-

Unterhaltsam, erinnert an ein Computerspiel

Insgesamt hörenswerte Geschichte mit befriedigendem Ende. Endlich wieder mal ein Fantasy-Roman, bei dem nicht die Verliebtheit im Vordergrund steht. Ansprechende Charakteren, die durch den Sprecher hervorragend inszeniert werden.
Leider viele Wiederholungen von Wörtern, Ausdrücken (z.B. wird mehrmals erwähnt, dass Corin einen Sachverhalt später näher untersuchen möchte) und auch Handlungen; -Insesondere zu viele, repetitive Kampfhandlungen, welche nicht immer nur Mittel zum Zweck sind; es scheint, als hätte der Autor die Handlung so beschrieben, damit möglichst viele solcher Kampfszenen vorkommen, auch wenn diese für den Verlauf der Geschichte nicht immer sinnvoll sind...

must hear if you love rpg

I felt engulfed in a new and beautiful world. the characters are nicely introduced one after the other and they are growing in the reader.

New spin on a dungeon story

I really love this story in the beginning it seems like a straightforward dungeon/tower storyline, and it will probably follow the expected have to climb all of it story. But the storytelling around it and the hints of how there are lot of different powers influencing the outcome as well as the atypical setting of the main character as a support is what makes it interesting in my opinion. I also like the kind of scientist/inventor mindset that's shown where he always is planning on researching or developing things with newly gained knowledge. All in all it is a nice twist and good storytelling to a dungeon type story

An intricate & poetic masterpiece

The plot and the fantasy - world is outstanding in its complexity and detail, paired with beautiful - partly seemingly poetic wording. I found it very easy to understand and agree with the main protagonist decision which made immersion really easy - a very interesting character. However, a great (audio) book is nothing without an equally amazing voice actor. Safe to say that I am very glad that this voice actor belongs now to one of my favourites because of his great voice variety, sound and way of painting an entire fantasy world. 5/5 - I definitely recommend this audio book! The only thing that saddens my mood right now, is the long time that will pass until the sequel will be published; however I look forward to that day and I will surely be among the first ones to buy it. Great job!
