Good for Motivation.
Each individual story is a fantastic read / listen. I knew most of the athletes spoken about but a lot of the details of their "fight" for success was new to me. The narration by the author himself was very fitting, it is always so much more enjoyable to listen to someone who knows what he is talking about than listening to someone who is just reading a book out loud who has virtually no idea what it is they are reading. At the end of the book I had the feeling I didn't really learn too much in the practical sense. The author did indeed mention at the beginning at the book that it is not a "how too" book with practical tasks or exercises for the reader to undertake. It is basically a book where each chapter is a different story about an athlete who has employed mind power to override muscular power in a way to achieve something which they would not have thought possible beforehand.
The motivational value is brilliant, and I will definitely read select chapters again in future whenever my motivation is low. However I am missing that extra part on how can I reach this "mind overriding muscle" condition myself. Only asking myself the question "How bad do I really want it?" doesn't show me how to do it. Of course if I am competing I really want it badly, that is my answer in most every race I enter. But how do I do it? I can't just switch my mind on to override.
Apart from this I would recommend this book to anyone, especially endurance athletes looking for a motivational boost. This book will do that.
