Intellectual SciFi in a plausible future
This is as far from space battles as it gets. The stories, by various authors, are more like think-tank speculations about a future where most economies have collapsed due to millennial failings, and interesting new sociatal structures are on the rise. Topics include virtual nations, the tearing down obsolete roads, doomsday cults, extreme environmentalism, genetic engineering, and people caught up in all of this.
Despite the intellectual bent, the stories are always engaging and personal, though it can take a while to get ones bearings.
The speakers, of Star Trek fame, are great throughout.
In summary, philosophically inclined readers might enjoy this book a lot

Beautifully interwoven
The shirt stories in this volume are all worth a listen on their own right, but create a interesting picture of a society that is much like our present one, just different. Together they create an interesting thought experiment and it is a joy to listen to the various narrators giving each author a distinct voice.
It's worth noting that some of the stories, narratives and worldbuilding pieces of this book and the first one are picked up again in the next (third) Metatropolis volume.
Some of the stories are thought provoking, almost philosophical or carry some religious questions in them, but can also just stand as nicely paced political/criminal thriller short stories. And some are just beautiful to listen to, as a glimpse into another world (looking at you, Kowal, I could almost taste the wine).
Definitely worth a listen, can only recommend it.
