Inhaltsangabe

A 50th-anniversary edition of Ken Kesey's searing American classic.

Boisterous, ribald, and ultimately shattering, Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has left an indelible mark on the literature of our time. Turning conventional notions of sanity and insanity on their heads, the novel tells the unforgettable story of a mental ward and its inhabitants, especially tyrannical Big Nurse Ratched and Randle Patrick McMurphy, the brawling, fun-loving new inmate who resolves to oppose her. We see the story through the eyes of Chief Bromden, the seemingly mute half-Indian patient who witnesses and understands McMurphy's heroic attempt to do battle with the powers that keep them all imprisoned.

Hailed upon its publication as a "glittering parable of good and evil" (The New York Times Book Review) and a "roar of protest against middlebrow society's Rules and the invisible Rulers who enforce them" (Time), Kesey's powerful book went on to sell millions of copies and remains as bracing and insightful today as when it was first released. This new deluxe audio edition commemorates the 50th anniversary of the original publication of the novel on February 1, 1962, and will be a must have for any literature lover.

Unvergesslich!

Ich hatte damals den Film gesehen und das Buch dann nie gelesen.... das war ein Fehler!

Eines der nicht so sehr vielen Bücher, die ich in die Kategorie „unbedingt lesen (oder hören)“ einordnen würde.

Classic. Shame about John C Reiley's "Chief" voice

This is undeniably a classic but it's quite a slog to get through. I've not read the book, and I've only seen the film once, 20 years ago as a teenager, so all I really knew/remembered is how it ends. I was excited to see that John C Reiley was reading the book, he's such a wonderful actor. When there's dialogue, particularly when McMurphy dominates the conversation, Reiley's voice is wonderful, the characters are very distinct (however, many might be offended by the "three black boys"...) My only problem with his voice is as the Chief... however this is a huge problem, because the Chief is the narrator of the story, so 85% of the reading is this quite monotone voice, which I really struggled to listen to, and I would drift off and sometimes miss key plot points. It's a real shame.

This was not a reading...it was a performance.

This book is a classic, so it doesn't matter whether I liked it or not (I didn't). The voice actor reading it was 100% amazing - it was like watching the film. I would recommend this simply for the amazing performance. And it's one of those books everybody should have read.

Schade.

Voll in die Bux gegangen ist das Inhaltsverzeichnis, das die Aufnahme in sechs Stücke teilt, etwa 37, 8, 16, 17, 2 und 20 Prozent (Opening Credits [3h55'], Part 1 [50'], Part 2 [1h40'], Part 3 [1h48'], Part 4 [10'], End Credits [2h08']), während der Roman aus vier Teilen besteht, die etwa so verteilt sind: 45, 16, 18 und 21 Prozent.

Greatly entertaining and deeply interesting

The first major point I'd like to highlight is the quality of the narrator(s). Each character in the story has a distinct voice, which is so well chosen and performed that it truly augments the entire experience.

This is a classic story, which does not fail to deliver on any count. Some parts are entertaining, others thrilling, whilst others really make you question everything you've heard so far.
