Inhaltsangabe

An unspeakable crime. A confounding investigation. At a time when the King brand has never been stronger, he has delivered one of his most unsettling and compulsively listenable stories.
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.
As the investigation expands and horrifying answers begin to emerge, King's propulsive story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can.

Kritikerstimmen

"Narrator Will Patton turns this story into an audio blockbuster.... King's usual sprawling cast of characters is also present, and suffice it to say that Patton does them all justice." (AudioFile)

I couldn't put my phone down!

This is the first audio book I finished within just days of purchasing it. Sometimes I find my mind wandering, when I listen to audio books but this book just had me wanting more. And it's been a while that I have felt sad, that a story had to come to an end. I could have continued reading (listening) on and on...😄

I absolutely adore King but even I will admit that some of his books are a bit on the tedious side. King sometimes likes to take his time with the build-up. With this one however, I feel like King has outdone himself again.

The story and characters not only arouse your interest but they also keep it. As the reader, I felt personally involved, I made my own choices and opinions - yet King reveals nothing, keeping the suspense, as you delve deeper into his world.

Yes, it may not be the most original story but it's enthralling, eccentric, mysterious and exciting with a hint of King, just the way I like it.

The narrator has a great voice and portrays the characters and story amazingly well. I would definitively love to listen to him again. So very pleased that I purchased this book.☺

Suspense to the end

I loved listening to this audio book. King painted the characters very vividly, though not in a way that would have given anything away. The reader has to choses a side by him- or herself. The story is absolutely compelling. It was beautifully told, the speaker kept my attention at all times. I would recommend this read to anyone who enjoys crime and horror.
