The complete unabridged audiobook of J.R.R Tolkien's The Silmarillion.
The Silmarillion is an account of the Elder Days, of the First Age of Tolkien’s world. It is the ancient drama to which the characters in The Lord of the Rings look back, and in whose events some of them such as Elrond and Galadriel took part. The tales of The Silmarillion are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-Earth, and the High Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils, the jewels containing the pure light of Valinor.
Included in the book are several shorter works. 'The Ainulindale' is a myth of the Creation and in the Valaquenta the nature and powers of each of the gods is described. 'The Akallabeth' recounts the downfall of the great island kingdom of Númenor at the end of the Second Age and 'Of the Rings of Power' tells of the great events at the end of the Third Age, as narrated in The Lord of the Rings.

The voice is more than outstanding
I found the voice of Martin Shaw to be more than enthralling. The book is a complex read, this audio book makes it a little bit easy to understand some parts of it.

How it all began: Biblical
An amazing and rich journey through an epic fantasy adventure. For the newcomer a lot to take in, but well worth the effort if taken in bite sized chunks. A must if you really want to understand Tolkien's world, although several readings/listenings are required.

Complex, but lovely.
I probably have listened to this dozens of times by now, and I think it's fair to say, this is probably the best fictional universe I know, with a good narrator aswell. I just wish it would have some background audio, like scene fitting SFX and the like.

Not ideal as an audiobook
It is quite complex to follow without being able to go back a couple of pages every time some name is used.
Nonetheless, a well narrated and interesting story for Tolkien fans. I would not recommend it for casual listeners.

Beautifully told story, that itself is marvelous
I've started to read the Silmarillion as a book and stopped after a while since it got too confusing.
But listening to this reader, who also modulates his voice for better differentiation of the characters, finally got me hooked and through this wonderful epic by Mr. Tolkien.
And I most certainly recommend it to everyone else, who is also interested in the epic history of the World of Middle Earth/Arda and how it came to be.

Good book but unnecessary music outros
story can be a bit hard to follow with all the names of people and places but otherwise quite enjoyable. I really like the voice of this audiobook but the overlaid music at the end of some chapters is extremely distracting to me.

awesome but hard
the Story is told really good, but as with all JRR Tolkien Storys, its really Hard to Keep up by the style it is written in, but over all a masterpiece

Beautiful language

Sehr gute Qualität bei Sprecher und Ton
Was soll man sagen, es ist eben das Silmarillion. Wer tiefer in das Universum Tolkiens eintauchen möchte kommt hieran nicht vorbei. Es handelt sich hierbei um die englische Originalfassung. Der Text wird Qualität sehr gut gelesen und auch die Tonqualität kann überzeugen.
